It’s October friends and it’s finally starting to feel like fall in these parts. This year we really kicked off October right (and how I now wish we could every year)…in Tahoe. Our neighbors and friends graciously invited us to join them at their family’s house for the weekend in Kings Beach. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the majestic feeling of Tahoe (and I don’t think I’ll ever say no to an invite..hint hint). It’s a bit of a trek for us (~4 hours), but when we’re near the end of our drive and find ourselves surrounded by the millions of stately trees, and that pure blue water starts to peek through, we completely forget about the drive.
Since it’s kind of Tahoe’s off-season, this little getaway felt extra relaxing. We spent most of Saturday at Speedboat Beach, and really had it all to ourselves. The kids played in the sand, climbed rocks, and chased ducks, while the adults relaxed, soaked in the sunshine, and had our own early happy hour. I had a particularly long work week so I couldn’t help but let out huge sigh of relief to be in a such a gorgeous place; all my stress just deliquesced (i.e. melted away…got my word of the day in!). And we finally found what this fall season has been missing so far…a chill in the air.
By late afternoon, we made it to a local Octoberfest in Tahoe City. It was a great little event filled with activities for kids like rock painting, face painting, hula hoops, and pumpkin decorating. There was also a great cover band, pretzels the size of my head, and of course great beer from fantastic local breweries. I have to say that fall feels fully kicked in now and I am so excited for the weeks ahead!
