Hi friends!!! It has been hot, hot, hot! And one thing I am not very good about is staying hydrated. But during pregnancy, hydration is SO important. There are many risks to being dehydrated, including the possibility of contractions and premature labor. Eek! Sooo, during my first and now my second pregnancy, I’ve really had to make it a focus for my own health and our babies’ health.
One thing I have found that helps me stay excited about drinking water is adding a hint of flavor. Even sometimes just a lemon or lime wedge makes all the difference. And during the summer when there is an abundance of summer fruit, I love love love getting even more creative with my water.
When infusing water, here are a few tips:
- Avoid fruit that is overly ripe or bruised. Same goes for herbs. Use herbs that are very fresh.
- When using large fruit, cut into small slices or cubes so that the water infuses more quickly.
- Infused water is best enjoyed after two to four hours so it has a chance to really infuse.
- The length of time infused water lasts depends entirely on the fruit or herb mixture. But I would only recommend drinking it for 2 days (make sure to keep refrigerated). Another thing you can do is strain the infused water and keep it in the fridge for a week.
Here are some of my favorite combinations (aka obsessions) for infused water:
- Nectarine (or peach), raspberry, and mint
- Strawberry, cucumber, and lemon
- Cherry and lime (although go heavier on the cherry than the lime)
- Blueberry and lemon
- Pineapple, mint, and ginger
Hope you enjoy friends!!!
- All your favorite fruit and/or herbs
- Water
- Add your fruit and herbs to a pitcher (or water bottle). The amount can vary, just remember that the more fruit you add, the more flavor you'll get.
- Pour cold water into the pitcher (or water bottle).
- Place in the fridge for at least 2 hours and enjoy!
