Last year, we wrote a Valentine to our son. Even though he couldn’t read it, it was nice to take a moment to reflect on everything he was learning and doing. Every day he’s changing and growing so much so I love capturing some of it on paper. I can picture him liking to read his Valentines with us in his early years, telling me how lame they are in his teen years, and then treasuring them sometime later.
Here’s a snippet from this year’s Valentine:
“….I can’t believe a year has already gone by. You’re almost two and we’ve watched you learn how to crawl, walk, run, jump, dance, go down slides, tackle (eek!), eat with utensils, chew with your teeth, stick out your tongue, drink out of a regular cup (just last week), make spit bubbles, use an iPhone (mind-blow), make hand signs, and now talk. And you are talking up a storm!
Your favorite things to say right now are: Golf! Truck! Clock! Sky! No! Yeah! I did it! Faucet! Bubble! Baby! Go, go, go! Mommy! Daddy! Most of these things you scream at the top of your lungs, hence the exclamation points. I don’t know where you get that from. 😉 I’ve taught you how to whisper, but it’s not really sticking.
You’re favorite things to do right now are golf, watch golf, and read magazines about golf. Again, I don’t know where you get that from. 😉 You also love, love, love to read books with Mommy and Daddy. Your favorite books are Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site, Oh the Places You’ll Go, and Go, Dogs, go!. One of my favorite things ever is when you pick a book that is not one of the above. You hand it to me, and when I start to read it, you immediately realize you don’t like it and say “All done” or “Uh oh”. Cracks me up every time.
At school, your favorite classmates are Olivia, Hudson, and Isla. Isla just moved from your class to the Cottontail class. But every time you see her, you shout “I-i-i-laaa!”……..”
