“First we eat, then we do everything else.” -M.F.K Fisher
I’m Ms. Six (yep, just like the number) and this is where I like to share snippets from my life as wife, mommy, and super food lover. I grew up with food being the nucleus of my family’s everyday…how we gathered, how we showed love, how we celebrated, how we learned, how we comforted, how we managed our health. Whatever the scene or time of day, my mom (& aunts & grandma) always made sure there was food.
Now that I have a family of my own, I have certainly incorporated that same mantra. As mama bear, I take so much pride and joy in ensuring my family feels loved, secure, happy, and healthy. And food is always at the center.
This little corner is a compilation of our everyday moments and the food that is there alongside of it all. I’m a firm believer that food is about so much more than nutrition. It certainly gives us energy, but it also makes us smile, moves us, fosters relationships, and creates some of our favorite memories. How many times have you thought of your childhood and that perfect meal only your mom could make? How quickly can you think of the best meal you ever had? How many times a year do you wish for summer because of strawberry pie or for fall because of your family’s secret stuffing recipe?
And so here, you’ll find all sorts of food, from the heart-healthy to the devil’s food. In my older age, I have definitely found myself eating healthier and being more mindful overall (I mean the metabolism is not going to last forever peeps). But I still scream for ice cream and every other ingredient that might not be in my waistline’s best interest.
Now you make look at my posts and think that because dinner looks put together that the rest of my life’s i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. But I assure you, as much of a planner and caretaker I am when it comes to food, I’m not so much with the other less exciting things around the house. Washing sheets, folding clothes, sweeping the floor, taking out the trash, cleaning the yard, errands….that can all wait until after we eat.
A little more about me
I’m half Filipino and thus, have a very large family who loves to eat, sing, and dance; and who I couldn’t live without. I love to laugh, and I am slightly obsessed with Seinfeld. I’m pretty good at Microsoft excel thanks to my daytime job. I love to nap when I can.
My children and husband are more than my everything. I am lucky to be married to an incredible man who is my best friend, the love of my life, and an amazing father to our son, Braden and our daughter, Ellie.
I come to you from Northern California, where I feel so lucky to live. It’s not only one of the most beautiful places; it also has the most amazing food. I both love and blame the Bay Area for making it impossible for me to enjoy a mediocre meal.
I have no culinary training and certainly don’t claim to be a wizard of any kind. I’ve had plenty of informal teachings from my mom and family growing up, but I’m just a girl who loves to be in the kitchen trying new recipes one at a time.
